Boeing’s surprise musical guest: Steve Miller

Boeing is treating its Everett employees to a surprise musical performance by Steve Miller.

The performance is part of a celebration for the 747-8 team, according to Boeing on Twitter.

In September, Boeing had planned to hold a celebration with 747 employees when it delivered the first 747-8 freighter to its launch customer, Cargolux. But Cargolux initially balked at taking delivery of the freighter over contractual issues. Cargolux finally accepted delivery of the first 747-8 freighter last month, but Boeing canceled the employee party and surprise musical guest performance.

P&G Thailand cheery about future

Procter & Gamble Manufacturing (Thailand) Co, the leading consumer product maker, is confident about allocating more investment to its production lines next year.

Managing director Raul Falcon says the company was already using 100% of production capacity at its factory in Wellgrow Industrial Estate in Chachoengsao province. It will consider investing more in production expansion next year to support the continuing growth of its business in Asia.

“I’m still optimistic about the restoration and rebuilding after the floods, and it will not take a long time for Thailand to recover,” Mr Falcon said.

He also noted that more than half of the total capacity at the Wellgrow factory serves export markets.

Citing a lack of support, Onorato yanks proposed UPMC bond

A spokeswoman for Mr. Onorato said today that Mr. Onorato pulled the bond legislation in response to inadequate support for the measure on county council.

Council’s economic development and housing committee had recommended approving the borrowing, but council President Jim Burn last week sent the proposal back to that committee for further study.

The matter had been scheduled for discussion before the committee this afternoon.

UPMC, the region’s largest medical care provider, has come under fire from members of council and from many community leaders over its refusal to bargain on a new contract with Highmark, the region’s largest health insurer.
