WinWeb Pitch of the Week – The Story Continues…
Our Pitch of the Week competition continues to go from strength to strength, highlighting great business ideas that deserve their moment in the spotlight. We thought we would take an opportunity to pause for a moment and take another look at some of the brilliant businesses that we have featured on this page over the previous two months:
Uni Baggage: Paul Stewart was the ninth winner of our competition with his low cost courier booking service for students. He used his experiences as a student and the difficulties he faced when transporting his belonging to university as the basis of his business idea. His service is up to four times cheaper for students than usual baggage transfer service charges.
KafeChew Edutech: This is another small business story which was inspired by studying. Kai Chew was preparing to start a degree in Actuarial Sciences but struggled to find the information sources he required. His website KafeChew brings together the actuarial science community and provides them with information and resources.
Domoticware: Manoj Phatak is combining his dream of running a small business with his dream lifestyle in the vibrant technological sector in Elche, Spain. His most recent innovation was a display case for museums that uses smart glass to protect art from the damaging effects of light.
Waste Notes: In August, Gordon Shaw became the first person to win our competition twice. Having previously won with ‘Environmentally Friendly Solutions’, he turned his attention to the problem of waste disposal with his ‘Waste Notes’ product that has become widely adopted by numerous industries.
Virtual Studio TV: Simon Malone and the rest of the Virtual Studio founders were so impressed with a new technology they discovered while in the US producing corporate videos that they decided to build a new business around it.
Everard Virtual Exhibition: When Martin Everard, son of highly regarded botanical artist Barbara Everard, decided to commemorate the work of his mother on the 100th anniversary of her birth he was almost prevented by the huge costs involved. However, he took advantage of new technology and managed to design a brilliant virtual exhibition instead.
Nyoki Handmade London: Inspired by her childhood in Kosovo, Njomza has kept alive the tradition of handcrafting that was passed down from mother to daughter generation. They work closely with job creation schemes in Kosovo, giving female survivors of the war the means to work and support their family financially.
Hello Baby: Trevor Ginn used his eCommerce expertise when launching Hello Baby, the online baby and nursery retailer. His knowledge of online marketing has given him an advantage over many of his competitors and he has subsequently managed steady growth despite the current recession.
